Looking after your smile in Islington

Here at DentalShine we love to see you smile. But how can you best look after that smile in Islington? Here are our top 5 tips:

Sugar

Naturally any tips for looking after your teeth – or your health in general – must include controlling your sugar intake. Recently Islington Council signed up to be a part of the SugarSmart campaign, with tips on cutting down on the sweet stuff, whether it’s in fizzy drinks or fat-free yogurts.
Why not take part in #FizzFreeFeb? (If you tweet with us tagged in to say you’re taking part, we’ll retweet you!)

But cutting down is one thing. Where can you go in Islington for sugar-free food?

Romeo's sugar-free cake

Well one possibility is Romeo’s Bakery, which has long specialised in sugar-free and gluten-free bread, cakes and pastries. They’re located just on the other side of Essex Road station from us.

Mouthguards

If you’re trying to cut down on your sugar intake, you might also be trying to get some more exercise. This is always a good idea, but many sports – rugby, boxing, ice hockey and so on – bring some risk of  impact to your mouth. It’s important to consider a mouthguard.

You can buy mouthguards from many outlets, including either of the JD Sports near DentalShine, which are next to Angel tube station and Dalston Junction/Dalston Kingston overground.

But remember that it’s always worth asking your dentist’s advice about mouthguards first!

Smoking

Most of us know that smoking causes many problems for our mouths, from staining all the way through to mouth cancer. Unfortunately giving up is easier said than done, so you may need to seek a little help.

Fortunately Islington Council provides a free Breathe Stop Smoking Service. Good luck!

Kids

It’s important to look after children’s teeth from the start. We provide a list of tips for ensuring your kid has healthy teeth, but in addition you might want to take them along to have their teeth fluoride varnished as an extra help. Whittingdon Hospital offer this for free too.

Regular Dentist visits!

You guessed it! The number one thing you can do to help look after your smile is to visit your dentist and hygienist regularly. Why not book an appointment with us now, either online using AppointMentor or by calling 0207 225 9797.
